Jobs hope as Skegness business park road completion paves way for spring sale

Work started in August as part of the £2.4m extension of the site, and the new highway will join up two parts of the existing industrial estate. The completed site will provide approximately 12 acres of newly serviced land.

Coun Colin Davie, executive councillor for economy at the county council, said: "I'm delighted that two plots of land totalling two acres are already under offer with a local developer.

"They will build a minimum of 6000 square feet of industrial units as part of the sale contract - expected to be completed for tenants in 2022.

"The investment in expanding this site will really boost the coastal economy for years to come."

The remainder of the site will be made available in due course for further development, for businesses to grow or re-locate into their own purpose-built units, encouraging more year-round employment

Matt Warman, MP for Boston and Skegness said: "The expansion of Skegness Business Park is another prime example of the Government working with local partners to deliver on levelling up towns such as Skegness to foster their future prospects. This redevelopment is a vital infrastructure project.

"Projects such as this, as well as those in motion through the £24.5m Towns Fund, will support tourism, improve the attractiveness of Skegness and – vitally - create jobs."

The infrastructure work costing £1.5m, is being carried out by contractors G F Tomlinson and includes:

- 285 linear meters or 3,078 sq meters of new highway/footpaths

- New street lighting columns

- Construction of a new culvert to allow for the extension of Holly Road

- Installation of foul pumping station

- Foul and surface water drainage system

- Utility connection service pits and ducting

Managing director of G F Tomlinson, Andy Sewards, said: "We’re pleased to have delivered vital infrastructure works for the redevelopment of the existing business park site in Skegness. Works involved lime stabilisation of the ground, preventing the need to remove around 2600m2 of soil from the site and reducing the carbon footprint of the whole project. We estimate we've saved more than 300 lorry deliveries to and from the site by taking this approach.”

Pat Doody, Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The LEP is very pleased to have invested £1.28m in this gateway scheme which will provide much needed space for business expansion and attraction in the Skegness area and support our tourism and manufacturing sectors as we emerge from the pandemic. The scheme will create 70 new jobs and 1,858sqm of commercial floorspace.”

The site is off the A52 to the west of the town, and the initial works will see the construction of a new highway, along with drainage and connections to utility services between Holly Road and Hassall Road.

The whole scheme is jointly funded by Lincolnshire County Council and a £1.279million Single Local Growth Fund grant from the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP).
