These are the words of Kirsty Dobson, manager at the Playhouse Cinema in Louth, who insists that the historic picture house is here to stay.

Kirsty’s words of reassurance come after international cinema company Cineworld announced the indefinite closure of all of their screens across the country due to the impact of Covid-19, sparking concerns about the future of the UK’s entire cinema sector.

However, bosses at the Playhouse in Louth, which is owned by Parkway Cinemas, insist that they fully intend on serving local audiences for many years to come.

Kirsty told the Leader: “Parkway Cinemas are proudly independent, and always have been.

“We’ve been serving our local audiences for more than 20 years, and fully intend on being here for another 20.

“In fact, the Playhouse in Louth first opened as a cinema in 1921, and we are looking forward to celebrating our 100th year next year.”

She continued: “James Bond may not be here this year after all, but we are. And we need your support.

“We’re showing brand-new films as part of the British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival 2020.

“We’re bringing classics back on the big screen where they’re supposed to be seen.

“We’ve got new films this week such as ‘Cats & Dogs’ and ‘On the Rocks’ starring Bill Murray and Jenny Slate, as well as Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ which will be retained for another week.

“And, we’ve got spooky family fun live on stage this Halloween, along with some horror classics too.”

However, Kirsty warned: “The future of cinemas is hanging by a thread.

“We think there’s something magical about seeing an amazing film in a proper local cinema.

“If you agree, now’s the time to pay us a visit, or buy a gift card to use in the future.”
