Mayor of Spilsby home safe after Spanish lock down and overwhelmed by community spirit

Spilsby is preparing to protect its community - with its Mayor safely home but in quarantine for 14 days after being on lock down while on holiday in Spain in Spain.

Coun Terry Taylor said he wqas delighted driving through Spilsby to see residents and businesses adhering to government guidelines. : "i am delighted to say that I managed to secure a flight home,

"I have been in isolation since March 14 whilst abroad and I will continue to spend a spell in isolation now I am home.

"It is so good to be back and amazingly heartwarming to see all the acts of kindness by the many volunteers in and around Spilsby helping the many people in need of assistance.

"An extraordinary meeting of the council has been held to resolve how the council will function during the crisis..

"There will be a need for a number of temporary measures and devolved powers, to enable the council to continue functioning. Rest assured the council will be doing it's very best to serve residents through this very difficult time.

"I do hope that you all keep well during this crisis and for anyone that may fall ill, I wish you an extremely speedy recovery."

Spilsby Christian Fellowship has been contributing to food bank and would like tinned meats potatoes, veg, beans soup fruit rice pudding pasta sauce rice biscuits cereals mash bread tea bags UHT milk.

The church has also made activity pack for toddler group parents and other church families. with the first focusing on 'Being kind'.

Spilsby Surgery has called on the community not to stockpile of essential medicines. A statement reads: "The NHS has told GPs and pharmacies not to issue larger than usual quantities of medicines. We will not be issuing prescriptions early.

"We do not have the luxury of providing ‘just in case’ medicines patients haven’t needed in years.."

Businesses such as restaurants and cafes have been responding to being asked to close by providing a takeaway service.

Others plan to use the time for renovations.

Rob Stark, business operator of the White Hart, said: "Weather permitting we will be landscaping the gardens in readiness for when we can welcome back all the friends of The White Hart, Spilsby.

"If all goes according to schedule we have something new to add to the already very successful cafe'wine bar. and a brand new all-day menu will be launched on our first day of re-opening.

"I hope to see everyone soon for some exciting and fun times ahead."

Halton Holegate care home has been preparing for being in lock down.

Di Vale, Care Home Manager, said: "At some point we are thinking that a number of staff are going to be living in the home to protect our residents.

"With this in mind I wondered if you could put out a plea for anyone who has a caravan that could be loaned to The Old Hall for staff to use for down time in between shifts as we will not be able to go home to our families for up to and maybe longer than 12 weeks."
