More traders are being invited to return to Gainsborough market as restrictions continue to be lifted during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fresh food and essentials have continued to be sold at Gainsborough market throughout lockdown however, following new Government guidance, West Lindsey District Council has announced that all existing traders can now return.

Chairman of the prosperous communities committee, coun Owen Bierley, said: “Our officers have worked hard to put measures in place to make the market safe for both traders and customers.

“This includes changing the layout of the market and improved signage for social distancing, which are just a few of the measures we have introduced.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all our traders who continued to offer vital services to local people at a time when this was most needed.

“We welcome the return of all our traders to the market in Gainsborough, which is the first step in supporting our local economy and supporting jobs and we hope to see customers supporting the traders and shopping locally.”

The market operates in the market place every Tuesday and Saturday.

West Lindsey District Council is encouraging people to get behind local businesses in the district and support them where possible including market traders and when other shops return to open from June 15.

The council launched its ‘Think Local’ campaign to raise awareness and support those local businesses across the district that are open for business.

Leader of West Lindsey District Council, coun Giles McNeill is backing the campaign.

He said: “We want to encourage and support those businesses who are able to continue to operate safely in a bid to support our local economy.

“Our Think Local campaign is aimed at raising awareness of what is available in local communities by showcasing businesses that are open, what they are doing and encourage people to consider using them for their essentials.

“It is incredibly important that we utilise our local businesses who will need our support more than ever.”
