Chris Isaac, of the Sack Store, in Spalding Road, was shortlisted in the High Street Hero category of the latest annual Great British High Street Awards.

The event, run by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in partnership with Visa, aims to celebrate local achievements on the UK’s high streets and support the nation’s communities.

The High Street Hero honour highlights exceptional independent business owners or employees who run initiatives and programmes to improve the high street experience for all.

Boston-born Chris opened the Sack Store 25 years ago to give Lincolnshire and the East an eclectic mix of log burners, furniture, ranges, homeware and kitchenware.

Six years ago he opened Stamford Garden Centre to reach families in counties to the south and west of the county.

In relation to Chris’ spot in the finals, organisers described the Sack Store as a ‘destination venue’ that ‘pulls customers into Boston from a huge area’, and him as someone who supports communities, charities, fundraisers, and ‘green’ projects.

“Customers say Chris is a rare breed: caring, considerate, and compassionate,” they added.

The awards were held at The InterContinental Edinburgh The George, in Edinburgh, on Thursday and while Chris did not win in his category, he felt honoured to have made the shortlist.

Speaking ahead of the event, he said: “It’s a team effort and it’s all the staff who deserve recognition, not just me.

“We feel a bit shy about this nomination, but we’re happy to be flying the flag for Lincolnshire.”
