New biotech research centre launching in Lincolnshire

A South African food technology company has announced the launch of a its new UK research and development centre in Lincolnshire.
Newform Foods, which specialises in food and biotech research, has announced it is opening the new facility to advance plant-cell cultivation, ingredient innovation and applied biotech research on the South Ormsby Estate in the Lincolnshire Wolds, which prides itself as an example of sustainable organic farming.
The company says it centre will prioritise research into high-value plant-derived compounds — including natural antioxidants native to crops such as rosemary, sage and berries — for application across food, nutrition and agricultural markets, manufacturers, ingredient companies and consumer health brands. This would help develop production of high-value ingredients.
Collaborative research and development will look to find the best processes to develop new products and license technology. These practices could be applied to sustainable ingredients, compounds and natural extracts for use in food, cosmetic products and herbal, mineral or vitamin products for health benefits beyond basic nutrition.

The establishment of the UK centre marks a significant step in Newform Foods’ international growth strategy and represents a long-term investment in innovation and scientific excellence.
South Ormsby Estate, an organic estate with a strong focus on sustainability, soil health and biodiversity, is said to provide a distinctive setting that connects regenerative agriculture with advanced bioscience. The partnership reflects a shared belief that responsible land management and scientific innovation both have a role to play in building more resilient food systems.
The company’s work in Lincolnshire is designed to complement and strengthen domestic agriculture by creating new value from crops, enhancing processing efficiency and contributing to greater food system resilience. Phased recruitment will begin ahead of operations commencing in April 2026.
“Our partnership with South Ormsby Estate provides a powerful platform to advance the future of food and agriculture,” said Brett Thompson, founder and CEO of Newform Foods.

“Through research and the development of functional, cultivated ingredients, our mission is to build a more resilient and sustainable food system. Lincolnshire offers an exceptional blend of agricultural heritage and forward-thinking ambition, and we are excited to establish a long-term presence here.”
Justin Chandler, Managing Director of South Ormsby Estate, added: “As an organic estate committed to sustainability, soil health and biodiversity, this partnership brings together responsible land management and world-class scientific research. We believe it represents an exciting long-term collaboration that will benefit our rural community while contributing to the resilience of future food systems.
"In time, we hope to explore opportunities for organic materials grown here on the estate to support the cultivation process, creating a more circular and locally rooted sustainable model.”
