Plans for new Aldi for eastern side of Boston move forward amid 'extremely encouraging' support
After attracting ‘extremely encouraging’ support during a public consultation, plans to open a new Aldi on the eastern outskirts of Boston have been submitted to the borough council for approval.
The discount food retailer is bringing forward the proposals for land off Wainfleet Road in partnership with Lindum Group.
In addition to a new food store, the vision for the vacant plot includes a drive-thru restaurant and a petrol station.
The development represents an investment of about £7 million into the area, Aldi says.

On top of this, it would create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs, with additional employment during construction and through the supply chain, it adds.
In spring, a public consultation was held over the plans, with a total of 932 responses being received.
This led to the following survey results ...
- 96.7 per cent of respondents supported the proposals in principle
- 96.5 per cent believed a new Aldi store would benefit the local area
- More than 800 respondents said they hoped the council would approve the plans

A spokesman for Aldi said: “We would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in our public consultation and share their views on the proposals.
“The level of support we have received has been extremely encouraging and demonstrates the clear demand for a new Aldi store in this part of Boston. Many residents highlighted the need for improved access to affordable food shopping, and we are pleased that our proposals have been so positively received.
“The planning application has now been submitted and we look forward to continuing to work with Boston Borough Council as it considers the proposals.”
A spokesman for Lindum Group said: “We are delighted to see such strong support from the local community for the redevelopment of this prominent gateway site on Wainfleet Road.
“The proposals represent a significant investment in Boston and will transform a long-vacant site into a high-quality development, delivering new jobs, improved facilities and wider economic benefits for the area.
“We would like to thank everyone who engaged with the consultation and look forward to working with Aldi and the council as the application progresses through the planning process.”
The consultation, Aldi said, highlighted ‘significant’ support for improved access to affordable food shopping, with many respondents recognising the benefits of providing a supermarket on the eastern side of Boston. Respondents also welcomed the investment, the creation of new jobs and the potential to reduce the need for residents to travel across the town for their weekly grocery shopping.
Residents wishing to comment on the proposals can do so via the council's planning portal with planning reference: B/26/0250.
Aldi has yet to say how the plans would affect its site in Queen Street or the scheme already approved for land off the A52 on the other side of Boston.
