Plans submitted for a micro energy storage system to be built near Skegness
Plans have been submitted for a micro energy storage system to be built near Skegness.
Applicant AMP Clean Energy has put forward plans to East Lindsey District Council for the 200KW energy storage system to be built at the verge of Ingoldmells Road and the A158, Burgh le Marsh.

Under the proposal, four micro energy storage units and a 2.4-metre-high palisade fencing compound would be built at the site.
AMP Clean Energy said the proposed development will help to improve energy security, reduce carbon emissions and improve the local electricity network, reducing the need for new substations to be built in the area.

The applicant added: “The UK’s electricity system was traditionally dominated by a small number of large power stations fuelled by fossil fuel (namely coal and natural gas).
“However, the system is now becoming increasingly supplied by intermittent sources of renewable energy such as wind and solar power.
“Renewable power generation does not always match when the demand for electricity is highest.
“To overcome this, we need a more flexible energy system that allows us to shift renewable energy to the periods of the day when the demand for power is at its greatest.
“And as the UK builds more and more renewable projects, increasingly there are times when the amount of renewable electricity on the system is greater than the demand for it.”
The applicant explained that its energy storage units import the electricity from the local network when the demand is low and export it back to the National Grid when there is a higher demand for electricity.
It added: “ESS’s (Energy Storage Systems) allow this ‘excess’ renewable electricity to be stored and used later when low carbon sources are unable to generate enough electricity (i.e., when it isn’t windy and sunny).
“By doing so ESS’s can prevent the need to turn on fossil fuel power stations and allow the UK to maximise the use of renewable power and to facilitate the UK’s transition to net-zero.”
East Lindsey District Council will make a decision on the plans for the energy storage system at a later date.
