Plans submitted for Sleaford town centre riverside café

Sleaford residents would be able to enjoy a new café and riverside outdoor area under recently-submitted plans.

As previously reported, North Kesteven District Council has submitted the plans as part of its long-term goals to regenerate Sleaford town centre.

A disused house and its private garden tucked away off Southgate would be converted and opened to the public in order to boost interest in the area, says the council.

The plans aim to create an “attractive, accessible, and welcoming space for residents and visitors”, and also provide public toilets and a changing space facility for disabled people with carers.

Design documents state: “The design aims to improve connectivity, open up the river, encourage footfall, and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of Southgate.”

The residential property, located alongside the River Slea, has been vacant for some time, according to the plans.

The application will be determined at a later date.

The council is also working on the Heart of Sleaford project, which focuses on revitalising the town centre by creating a pedestrian link between Market Place and Money’s Yard.

A masterplan – which would also include a town centre cinema – was given council backing in 2019, but faced delays during the pandemic.

The council said in March 2025 it was in talks with an operator, although there have been no updates since then.
