Popular city centre pub to close for £160,000 revamp

The Stag’s Head on Newport in Lincoln is to close on 17th August for four weeks for a £160,000 upgrade by Heineken owned Star Pubs1. The popular pub will reopen on 19th September under new management with a more extensive food offer, available 7-days a week, and improved sports facilities.
The changes will see publicans Iain and Angie Stewart run The Stag’s Head on behalf of Star Pubs to create a quality family and dog friendly city centre pub with a friendly local ambience and the largest beer garden in the area.
The couple are moving to Lincoln from Mansfield. For Angie it’s a welcome return home as she brought up her children in Market Rasen and has family in and around Lincoln.
Iain has over 30 years’ experience running pubs and clubs, including a pub in Tenerife. Angie’s career has included accountancy as well as working as a holistic therapist.

Says Iain: “We loved The Stag’s Head the moment we saw it. It’s a handsome building in a great central location with lots of space both inside and, unusually for this part of town, outside. It also has a lovely atmosphere which is one of the reasons, no doubt, that it is so popular. It ticked all our boxes.
“Angie and I are really looking forward to meeting our new neighbours and the pub’s regulars and becoming part of the community. We’re counting down the days till we’re behind the bar.”
Says Dan Littlewood, Star Pubs Business Development Manager: “We’re delighted to be investing in Lincoln again in two high profile pubs. It’s part of a £40m investment that HEINEKEN UK is making this year upgrading and reopening pubs around the country.
“With The Stag’s Head’s upgraded sports facilities, AV system and decor, proper seven-day-a-week food offer on top of its location near Lincoln Cathedral and the Castle, large garden and carpark, and a schedule of entertainment there really is something for everyone.”
