Nicky Brooksbank, who owns Nice & Naughty Cafe Bistro in the town’s Queen Street, has invested her Covid-19 support grant to allow her to take her business in a different direction.

Having been closed to the public for almost three months, Nicky reopened last week with a bright new look and everything in place to adhere to government guidelines.

She said: “We have had to adapt the business and we are fine with that.

“We have put in a screen at the counter and my husband has made a sanitising station.

“Customers are being asked to sanitise their hands when they come in and there is the option of a face mask to use and take away with them for those who want it.”

The face masks have been supplied by MRAG and is an offer made to all the town’s businesses.

Customers are being encouraged to make contactless payments.

Nicky has also made changes to what is on offer.

She said: “We have reduced the menu for ease of getting things done quicker and there is the facility to pre-order - a kind of click and collect - so people spend as little time as possible within the shop itself.”

However, one new line is proving to be an instant success - Sunday lunch.

Nicky said: “It was our first go at takeaway Sunday lunch [on June 21] and we sold out.

“We suggest people make sure they book going forward, as I would hate to turn anyone away.”

The Sunday lunches have come out of the increased popularity of the community meals during the coronavirus pandemic.

It is something Nicky has always done, but says it is a market she has found it ‘difficult to tap in to’.

Lately, however, demand has increased.

She said: “There is definitely a need in the community and we will continue with these.

“We invested part of our grant money in a van with a suitable insulation facility to allow us to deliver the meals piping hot.

“At the moment, these are only offered on certain days, and 50p from each meal goes to support the work of MRAG.”

Nicky also continues to offer her popular ‘fakeaway’ nights, themed days and slimming food meal plans.
