Highways England will remove as many roadworks as possible in time for the bank holiday weekend and in-light of the planned rail strike on Bank Holiday Monday, not reinstate them until Thursday May 28.

As members of the RMT and TSSA Unions that work for track and infrastructure operator Network Rail are planning to take industrial action on Monday May 25 and Tuesday May 26, Highways England is not planning to reinstate roadworks until 6am on Thursday May 28.

In total, almost 400 lane-miles of roadworks on motorways and A roads will be removed or suspended by 6am on Friday, May 22.

A spokesman for Highways England said: “We’re working closely with Network Rail and DfT to do all we can to help you travel during planned rail action.”
