Sewing star helps NHS charity with face mask production

Teresa Addison, who has run ‘Maybe Sew’ from her home for the past nine years, would usually spend most of her time altering clothing for weddings, parties and proms - but there are precious few of these events going on at the moment due to social distancing measures in place.

However, one customer got in touch to ask if some face masks could be made for use by a local carer - and Teresa was more than happy to help.

Since then, many similar orders have come in for face masks, so Teresa has started producing them for free in exchange for donations to the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust Charitable Fund, which supports NHS hospital services in Lincolnshire.

Teresa’s recent workload has included face masks for individuals and carers, several big orders for shops, and a supply of 50 masks for Grimsby Hospital.

All masks are made to a high standard in line with NHS guidelines.

Teresa said: “I’ve had fewer paid orders than usual due to the pandemic, so this has been really good as it’s helping me use up a big stash of fabric!

“I’ve still got about 200 masks to make as I’ve had so many orders! There have been so many donations; people have gone above and beyond.”

Teresa’s original fund-raising target was £200, but the total sum of online donations is now over £700.
