Store manager Chris Pettinger managed to take a break from helping Christmas shoppers for a couple of minutes to say how proud he is of his staff and their achievements.

"We have 260 colleagues and a good 30-35 of them have been here for the whole 15 years so we have done presentations to them as well," he said.

"The store has changed quite considerable over the years and we have quite a lot of competitors in the area so we really have to fight for business providing the best service."

Mayor Coun Mark Dannatt said: "I'm delighted to be here today for the celebration. To be open for 15 years is an incredible achievement in the current climate.

"It's a good day to be had by all."
