Car show organisers support Sleaford disability charity

Organisers of the Sleaford Classic Car and Motorcycle Show recently visited the premises of Rainbow Stars, a Sleaford based charity providing help and support to people of all ages who have additional needs.

This local good cause was chosen as the principal beneficiary of monies raised at this year’s event held at the Recreation Ground on Boston Road, held in September.

The show donated £500 to the charity and around £120 was raised at their tombola stall on the day of the show.

The show team were keen to see for themselves the magnificent work undertaken by the volunteers in providing a safe and inclusive environment that supports children, adults and their families. They provide activities, not only at their hub on Watergate, but also outdoors on their local allotment and organised outings.

Show chairman Alan Aistrup commented: “What we found was a very dedicated group of volunteers providing a range of activities that were clearly well received by everyone attending. The place was full of laughter and high spirits and it was clear that everyone involved was enjoying themselves to the full. There were ongoing art projects in progress, music and one to one interactions that were of obvious benefit to those taking part.

"We were also informed of the work being done at their allotment in transferring skills that enable members to grow their own fresh produce, which is then used in the kitchen back at HQ to provide their own homegrown meals.”

He commented: “The dedication of the volunteers at Rainbow Stars is phenomenal and they are making a real difference to the lives of their members and their families.”

The monies raised will be used to part fund the upgrade of the existing washroom area to provide fully accessible facilities meeting a complex range of additional needs.

He thanked show entrants, sponsors and visitors in helping to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause.
