'Clear link' between crime, domestic abuse and unemployment, bosses have found

Work is going to start to tackle a ‘clear link’ between crime, domestic abuse and unemployment, say county bosses.

Lincolnshire County Council’s community safety scrutiny committee were told that the Safer Lincolnshire Partnership (SLP) has found a connection between, crime, domestic abuse and unemployment.

This county wide scheme is going to be looking at the the impacts of unemployment and crime and its influences on cases of domestic abuse.

Officials say they’re looking closely at the data and are planning to target areas in Lincolnshire where these connections are most prevalent.

Jade Thursby, domestic abuse business manager at LCC, told the meeting on Tuesday (June 16): “We also have a county-wide project which is looking at unemployment and the links between crime and domestic abuse.

“When the needs assessment was undertaken – there was a clear connection between crime, domestic abuse and unemployment.

“So, we are working really closely with the Connect to Work Project – which is a Lincolnshire County Council project – and working with them to make sure that they understand where those cohorts and where that data is coming from so they can target those areas and work in those areas really closely.”

Bosses said the SLP is looking to tackle the problem with targeted employment pathways, trauma-informed support and improved multi-agency coordination.
