Local horse riders are being invited to try something a little different this spring, as Endurance GB brings endurance riding to Elkington, near Louth, on Sunday 15 March 2026.

Taking place with the kind permission of G B Dobson Farms, the Elkington Pleasure Ride will be based in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, offering stunning views, gently rolling countryside and quiet, safe riding routes across bridleways, farm tracks and open fields.

What is endurance riding?

Endurance riding is exactly what it sounds like — riding over longer distances at a steady, sensible pace, with your horse’s welfare at the heart of everything. Horses are checked by vets before and after the ride to make sure they are fit and comfortable, and riders set off individually or in small groups, enjoying clearly marked routes through beautiful countryside.

It’s not about speed or racing. Instead, endurance is about partnership, preparation and enjoying time out with your horse — making it one of the most accessible equestrian sports around.

Perfect for beginners

Elkington is particularly well suited to those new to endurance riding. The shortest class starts at 16km, which is roughly a steady two-hour hack for most riders. There are no gates to open, only one busy road crossing (fully manned by stewards), and most tracks have good verges, making the ride suitable for barefoot horses too.

Organiser Charlotte Scott said: “We’re keen to welcome local riders who may never have tried endurance before. If you enjoy hacking and exploring the countryside with your horse, this is a really friendly way to get involved.”

Entries Secretary Danni Fuller added: “You don’t need special tack, a specialist horse, or years of experience. Any reasonably fit horse and rider combination can take part, and there’s always plenty of support on the day.”

A well-loved local venue

Feedback from previous Elkington rides highlights the welcoming atmosphere, clear route marking and beautiful scenery. Riders have praised the organisation, friendly volunteers and the confidence it gives newcomers attending their first event.

Despite being held in early March, the route generally rides well in all weathers thanks to the chalky Wolds terrain, which offers good natural drainage. A tractor will also be on site in case anyone needs assistance with parking.

Plenty of chances to get involved

Elkington is just one of many endurance rides taking place across the UK, with a full calendar running from March to October. Riders can choose distances that suit them and progress at their own pace, whether they’re looking for relaxed pleasure rides or longer challenges later in the season.
