Louth care home opens its doors to the community to help combat loneliness
A care home in Louth is offering fun and friendship to older people feeling lonely this winter by extending an open invitation to their weekly community bingo afternoon.
Madeira House Care Home on High Holme Road has invited the public to join them for their Thursday games sessions, hoping to ensure people feel connected and cared for.

As well as helping individuals make new friends, activities co-ordinator Charlotte Damms is also offering local groups free use of their meeting space.
The big-hearted team at the Advinia Healthcare home say the offers are there to spread kindness and compassion, as well as to serve as a helpful resource for their neighbours.

Charlotte said: “When the weather gets colder and the nights draw in, feelings of loneliness and isolation can intensify, particularly for older people who live alone.
“We hope that by joining in with our weekly bingo sessions, our neighbours will forge new friendships and enjoy being part of our vibrant home community.
“The residents are excited to welcome guests to join the fun.”
For the complimentary meeting space, Charlotte said that any group looking for a warm, comfortable place to meet up will be welcome.
She added: “We know it can be tricky to find a suitable space that caters to everyone in your group, and so we invite our community to make the most of what we can offer.
“It’s an ideal spot for dementia or Parkinson’s support groups to use, or people meeting to do crafting, singing or many other activities.
“We’ve got ample parking, free WI-FI, and it’s accessible for all. You don’t have to include our residents in the meet-up, though, if you’d like to, I’m sure many of them would be interested in coming along.
“The main thing is that we want everyone to feel very welcome at Madeira House and be a good neighbour to all.”
Community Bingo will take place every Thursday at 1.30pm, while groups are encouraged to contact the home on 01507 607452 to book the meeting space.
