Louth nursery children vs residents at Joyful Care Home sports day
Summer fun got competitive at a Louth care home this season when residents took on children from a local nursery at their traditional sports day.
There were plenty of smiles and laughs as Madeira House Care Home on High Holme Road - which is part of Advinia Healthcare - hosted children and staff from Greenwich House School and Nursery for the afternoon of games.
The generations got along famously as the care team laid on a series of traditional sports day activities, including an egg-and-spoon race, beanbag shotput and running races.
Residents Margaret Seagrave, 87, and Dorothy Broome, 88, took on the duties of shouting ‘Ready, Steady, Go!’ at the start of each competition and handing out medals to the winners.
No matter who triumphed in each race, everybody was a winner by the end of the day.
Margaret’s daughter Kelly said: “It was a heartwarming day full of joy and laughter. The residents thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the children, and the visit truly brightened everyone’s spirits.”
After all the exertion, Madeira House’s chefs laid on a delicious spread of homemade cakes as the children chatted to residents about their lives.
According to Lead Wellbeing Co-ordinator Charlotte Damms and her colleague, Wellbeing Co-ordinator Kaitlin Walters, it was an unforgettable day.
Charlotte said: “We wanted to put on an event that would bring the generations together and be packed full of fun.
“It was terrific to see the reactions of the children and residents during the day. It was such a fantastic atmosphere and filled our home full of joy. We’re delighted to have such a wonderful connection with Greenwich House.”
Kaitlin added: “It’s so moving to see residents spending time with the children and how much happiness it brings to both generations.
“We’re already planning our next meet-up.”
