Sleaford Conservation Area management plan out for consultation

North Kesteven District Council is offering residents and businesses the chance to inform a plan to shape how it manages the town’s heritage and give it better protection.
The Sleaford Conservation Area was first designated in 1973 and has undergone periodic reviews, the last being in 2016.
By helping shape the management plan for Sleaford’s Conservation Area, consultees will contribute to an understanding of the heritage and history of Sleaford – a market town with first evidence for settlement dating to the Iron Age.
The management plan is a tool to help gain greater understanding of the character and special interest of the Conservation Area and to apply it to decision-making within the town including the determination of planning applications.
The document, which can be read on the council website at Conservation Area Reviews | North Kesteven District Council, encourages the restoration and conservation of historic fabric in Sleaford.
The consultation period will run from November 24, 2025 until January 17, 2026. A drop-in session will take place at Riverside Church on Southgate in Sleaford between 12pm-7pm on December 1, 2025.
Anyone who has any comments about the document, or what they think makes Sleaford special, and why the heritage and history of the town is so important, should email [email protected].
NKDC has also produced a questionnaire for people to have their say, which you can fill in here: https://online1.snapsurveys.com/Interview/b02c79f5-0dc4-42a6-b272-8c1f3531b5e8
NKDC Council Leader Councillor Richard Wright said: “Sleaford is full of interesting history and heritage and it deserves to be further enhanced and protected.
“I’d like to encourage everyone to take a moment to respond to the consultation and to also send us their thoughts about the history and heritage of the town, as well as by attending the drop-in session.
“This is not just an appraisal, the management aspect will also identify opportunities to enhance the heritage of Sleaford.
“We recently adopted our Heritage Strategy and Shop Front Design Guide which will cherish the local heritage of the District, ensure the area remains distinct and attractive, help to boost local tourism and set out design expectations across the District’s historic town and village centres.”
In North Kesteven, there are a total of 34 Conservation Areas and, once the programme of review is completed in Sleaford, the Council will begin further appraisal management plans in Leadenham and Brant Broughton.
This follows the adoption of the Washingborough Conservation Area in November 2025, the latest of 10 Conservation Areas reviewed since 2016.
