Vandals and litter plaguing Caistor parks

Caistor's Town Council has reported that it is “really disappointed” about ongoing damage and littering across the its sports fields and play areas.

The council has reported that its team were repeatedly finding smashed glass on the multi-use games area and skate park at the sports field, along with large amounts of plastic bottles and other rubbish.

"This is clearly dangerous for anyone using these facilities,” said the council in a public statement.

At Kelsway Field, the council believes there is “clear evidence” of gatherings, including a fire pit dug into the ground, tree branches being cut and burnt, dumped sofas, and significant amounts of litter, aerosols, and other waste.

The authority pointed out: “This damage is not harmless or free. It takes up valuable council resources, money, and employees’ time — time and funding that could be spent improving the town, maintaining other facilities, or supporting the community in more positive ways.”

Apart from clearing the areas up and liaising with West Lindsey District Council anti-social behaviour teams to include the area on their patrols, the Town Council says it has upgraded the CCTV at the sports ground, and is in contact with the police to try to identify the offenders. They will soon be installing motion sensors across the grounds to enhance night-time security cameras.

But they also appealed to the public for help in stamping out the problem, saying: “We know that the vast majority of users enjoy these facilities responsibly, but if you do witness vandalism or unsafe behaviour, please report it.

“Parents and carers, please talk to anyone in your household who uses these spaces about the importance of respecting shared facilities.

“These spaces belong to all of us. If the damage continues, facilities may have to be restricted or closed — and that’s something nobody wants.”

They added: “Let’s work together to take pride in Caistor and protect the spaces we all share.”
