Woodhall Spa cat charity celebrates successful first year

The fledgling volunteer team at Cats Protection Woodhall Spa is celebrating a successful first year helping cats and kittens in need.

To mark the milestone, it is hosting a quiz night on Friday, March 27 at Coronation Hall in Woodhall Spa, inviting both cat and quiz-lovers to the fun event.

The new branch of the UK’s largest feline charity was created to focus on cat welfare in Woodhall Spa and surrounding towns and villages including Horncastle, Coningsby and Spilsby.

Branch Team Leader Liza Davies said: “We decided to break away from one of our larger Lincolnshire branches and become a smaller group, able to focus on the continuing demands of the areas that we could see needed addressing. We all live, work and socialise in these areas so know exactly the challenges facing cats here.

“It is rewarding to know that we help both cats and families that may be struggling with their pets. Although it can be heart breaking to see the condition of some of the cats that we bring into care, we do understand that life can sometimes be overwhelming. We do our best to take on these cats, get them healthy again and ensure they are adopted out to homes where they will continue to thrive. The more volunteers we have, the more cats we can help.

“As we reflect on a successful first year, we are already looking ahead to how we can grow as a team to support more cats and owners, and we would love to hear from anyone with a shared interest in our cause.”

The small team would welcome any like-minded people to come on board so it can expand its work. It is particularly looking for fosterers and fundraisers. Fosterers are a vital part of the team, allowing it to bring in more cats that may be living in unsuitable conditions, caring for them before finding them new, loving homes.

As well as rehoming, the team also undertakes ‘Trap, Neuter, Return’ work, which involves catching cats in humane traps, taking them to vets to be neutered and returning them to their original site or securing another safe, rural setting such as farms. It also provides financial support for neutering for families on low incomes.

Doors to the trivia night open at 6.30pm, with the quiz starting at 7.30pm. Teams are a maximum of six people, with entry at £2 per person.

Bring your own food and drink along (including alcohol) to enjoy. As well as the quiz, there will be a raffle with an assortment of prizes to be won. Spaces are now limited so book your table or donate a raffle prize by emailing [email protected] or call 01526 556065.
