James Alexander Turland, 34, of The Meadows, admitted driving under the influence of drugs as well as without insurance or a driving licence when he appeared before magistrates in Boston.

Prosecuting, Mohammed Zarandouz said police officers stopped Turland when he was driving his Ford Focus in Lincoln Road in Baumber near Horncastle at 10.30am on October 10 last year as the car was flagged up as not being insured.

It was also discovered that his driving licence had expired.

He said Turland provided a drugs wipe which showed a positive reading for cocaine and a later blood test gave a reading of 144 micrograms of cocaine in his bloodstream, the legal limit being 50.

The magistrates were told that Turland was under a suspended prison sentence at the time and they ordered that his latest conviction be notified to the court that had imposed it.

After hearing that Turland had a drink driving conviction in 2018, he was banned from driving for three years and fined a total of £240 and ordered to pay £119 in court costs and charges.
