Arthur’s wonderful gesture will give his schoolmates a Christmas to remember!

Pupils at Grimoldby Primary School will enjoy a special day of festive treats and surprises next Monday (December 14), thanks to some kind-hearted local businesses - and one very generous youngster!

On the day, the school will open the doors to its ‘Christmas Grotto’ which is being kindly sponsored by Jassies sweet shop in Pawnshop Passage.

The Grotto will be funded by Year One pupil Arthur Jacklin, using money he raised during lockdown through the sale of specially-designed ‘Oh Arthur’ rainbow t-shirts.

The entrepreneurial five-year-old donated some of the proceeds to the NHS, and give his fellow pupils a Covid-safe Christmas to remember.

With additional donations from Jassies and support from the school itself, the school hall will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland, complete with a snow machine and a festive balloon arch, kindly donated by ‘Best Day Ever’ Party Supplies.

Children will be able to enjoy a range of Christmas activities, including decorating cupcakes and gingerbread, making Christmas decorations, and creating their very own reindeer dust.

Every child will receive a special gift donated by Jassies, and there will also be a competition with one lucky pupil winning a Jassies sweet hamper and an ‘Oh Arthur’ Christmas T-shirt of their very own design.

The school’s headteacher, Antonia Brooks, said: “We are so excited to be able to give our pupils a really special day to remember this Christmas,”

“This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to have some fun during what has been a very different year for many.

“We are very grateful for the support Arthur and his mum has shown for our school”.

Kayleigh Avis, owner of Jassies Sweet Shop, added: “When Arthur approached me and asked if I’d like to be a part of the Christmas Grotto, I couldn’t refuse!

“If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that community spirit is so important and we are absolutely delighted to be able to help one of our local schools put on a brilliant event for its pupils.”
