Exciting day of cycling for new school library

During the summer break, the library at Ancaster Primary School will be relocated to a different space within the school.

To ensure that it is the most functional space and every area is utilised, the management have decided to remodel the front entrance. The main front doors will be repositioned meaning that a new room can be created to make way for the library.

Headteacher Sam Eden said: “The children are all very excited about the prospect of a new library space that is better than ever.

“We are now focusing all our fundraising around this redevelopment and all money raised from events will go towards providing the best library space possible for the children of Ancaster.”

The school is planning a fundraising challenge, called Pedal Power, which will see pupils (and adults) work together to cycle the distance to the British Library in London and back as many times as they can on Friday June 24. The whole day will be a Festival of Cycling with many activities planned. The child with the most sponsors will win a brand new Frog bike from Dr Bike worth up to £400.

Mr Eden said: “First thing in the morning children cycling to school can take part in a Biker Breakfast (we’d like to break the school record for the number of cycles/scooters on site) and we are also launching an exciting competition called ‘Crazy Crash Hats’. This is an opportunity for children to decorate their cycle helmets and parade them. We are asking that the helmets are decorated around the theme of books and there will be prizes for the best Crazy Crash Hats on the day.”

Stuntman Danny Butler will visit the school during the afternoon to perform an action packed show to children and parents.

The school will be presented with a Silver ‘Bike It’ Award from Sustrans for the distance cycled and scooted by pupils to and from school during the year.
