Future focus at Rasen careers event

This is the third year the school has run a careers fair, which Dan Willars, head of vocational and careers education at De Aston, is pleased to see get bigger every year.

“We are pleased to welcome some new exhibitors this year, giving an even greater range of careers and further education options for the students to think about,” he said.

“All the exhibitors have been brilliant with all the ages and we thank them for coming along.”

Energy supplier EDF was one of those attending the fair for the first time.

“We have been promoting getting more girls into engineering, technology and science,” said HR manager Richard Collins.

“It is all about getting people interested in the power industry and we have taken down lots of names for site visits.

“It has been pleasing to see the number of young ladies who have a genuine interest in engineering.

“The whole event has been brilliant and we will certainly come again.”

Following the success of this year’s event, plans are already being made for next year.

“We are planning to target local businesses to take part in the fair next year,” said Mr Willars.

“We do, however, appreciate this is a big ask for small businesses to commit to.”
