Pupils in Year 11 achieved outstanding grades across a large range of subjects.
Grade 9 at GCSE is the highest possible grade that can be achieved and at De Aston, seven pupils achieved Grade 9 in GCSE English Language, while four achieved Grade 9 in GCSE English Literature and Art and Design.
There were also Grade 9s in GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Citizenship, Design Technology, History, Mathematics, Media, Drama and Physics.
In Vocational Qualifications, there were six Distinction* grades in Hospitality and Catering, five in BTEC Construction and four in BTEC Sport.
There are stories of success too for those that overcame great hardships in their personal lives by adopting the school’s growth mindset approach, truly embodying the school’s mantra of Believe Strive Achieve.
Simon Porter, De Aston’s headteacher said: “We hold Year 11 in high regard for what they have achieved.
"They have come through the toughest of times with constant Covid disruption over the last two years and they have come through with their heads held high.
“We have provided extensive support for them and I want to pay tribute to the hard work of the subject teachers and Heads of Subject for their dedication to the pupils.
"In addition to pastoral support, teaching staff gave up lunchtimes, after school and Saturdays to provide hundreds of hours of extra teaching.
"Result days are all about the young people. I have taught English to this year group and I have witnessed first-hand the resilience they
demonstrated throughout the Covid period. They deserve all they have earned.
"I am really looking forward to seeing the vast majority of the year group come back to us to study at De Aston Sixth Form to continue on their seven-year journey with us.”

Harrison Sherwell celeberated his achievements with history teacher David Randall. Harrison was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 10, so it has been a tough few years. He has worked hard, despite having to drop back a year, and has achieved grade 9 in History, Chemistry and Physics. He hopes to secure a place at Wyke 6th Form College in Hull, which has a pre-medical programme to help with his ambition of becoming a paediatric doctor. Photo: Dianne Tuckett
