Attainment 8, which measures average achievement of students across eight GCSE subjects, increased by 6.41 points to 46.57, placing Sir William Robertson Academy above the 2025 national average, demonstrating significantly stronger performance across the curriculum.
The most striking aspect of this year’s results is the dramatic improvement in English and Mathematics, says the school.
Compared to 2025, the percentage of students achieving a strong pass (Grade 5+) in both English and Mathematics increased by 18.01 percentage points; English Grade 5+ outcomes improved by 15.07 percentage points; and Mathematics Grade 5+ outcomes improved by 12.86 percentage points.
Across the curriculum, students achieved excellent outcomes in a broad range of academic and vocational subjects, said the school.
Science was one of the academy’s strongest areas, along with French. Students also achieved outstanding outcomes in sport-related qualifications.
Several students achieved exceptional grades across a range of subjects.
Tessa Royle was one of the highest-performing students in the cohort. She achieved predominantly Grade 8s and 9s across her subjects. Sofiia Rodenko scored multiple Grade 9s and Grade 8s across a broad academic portfolio. Noah Reddish achieved an exceptional collection of Grades 7, 8 and 9s, with other high achievers named as Grace Gregory, Mia Balciunaite and Lewis Defraine.
Head of Year 11, Liz Brewin, said: “What is particularly pleasing is the significant improvement we have seen in English and Mathematics, alongside excellent outcomes across the wider curriculum. Whether students achieved the very highest grades or overcame personal challenges to achieve their goals, every success deserves recognition.”
CEO and Headteacher, Scott Barlow, said these results represent a “landmark moment” for Sir William Robertson Academy.
"The scale of improvement across Progress 8, Attainment 8, English and Mathematics is truly exceptional and reflects the collective effort of students, staff, parents and governors.
“We have always believed in the potential of our young people and these outcomes demonstrate what can be achieved when ambition, high expectations and excellent teaching come together.
“I would like to congratulate every student on their achievements and thank our dedicated staff for their unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child succeeds.”
