Grant for DofE kit store

Donations from Lincolnshire Co-operative Community Champions fund and the Rotary Club of Sleaford help create an equipment store for Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions at St George's Academy. EMN-160119-131550001

The scheme gives 14 to 24 year olds a chance to push personal boundaries, gain new skills and enhance their CV’s and university applications.

To make the scheme available to all, the Rotary Club of Sleaford decided to fund the cost of the equipment required to complete the three year course, which can be loaned to any student needing it. This includes tents, wet weather gear and rucksacks. At an assembly on Friday, to open the scheme to interested year nine students, a cheque for £4,750 was presented by club president John Elkington who talked about his own DofE experiences and benefits achieved whilst a former pupil of the school. Almost half the donation came from the Rotary Foundation, a charity run by the Rotary Club.

This was supplemented by a Community Champions grant of £555 from Lincolnshire Co-op by Daniel Wilson from the Co-op.

Head of DofE at the academy, Emma Bartle, explained: “The amount of high quality kit we are going to be able to provide for the students is going to set us up really well.”
