All of Academy’s Year 11s - accompanied by 15 pupils from Sir John Nelthorpe School - headed off to the Oaklands Hotel in Laceby just before half term for a day packed with useful revision tips and tricks ahead of their GCSE examinations.

The day was planned and co-ordinated by leader of maths Becky Spencer, Pupil Premium co-ordinator Mike Starling and Positively Mad, one of the country’s leading providers of student workshops, who lead the session.

Pupils learned new techniques called ‘exam busters’ and ‘speedy revision skills’ and were ‘amazed at what they could recall and how much information they could retain in such a short space of time’.

Pupils Jensen Blewitt and Elle Marler said the say was ‘motivational’ and ‘brilliant’, while Will Lince said ‘it was really useful’.

Becky Spencer said: “It was fantastic to see how the students were engaged with the day and how enthused they were about the skills they had learned from the event.”

According to some statistics recorded by the Academy, before the Oaklands revision day 58% of the school’s Year 11 pupils felt they were prepared for their exams - and after, the figure increased to 79% saying they felt prepared for their exams.
