A-LEVELS: Giles Academy speaks of its pride in sixth form students achievements this year

And rather than single out individual performances, the school has chosen to speak of its pride at the way the sixth form student have dealt with the unprecedented circumstances.

Assistant Headteacher of the Old Leake school, Dr Kyri Chrysostomou, said the results reflect the hard work of the students and staff since September 2018 at a time of uncertainty surrounding examinations and school results nationally.

“For both A Level and BTEC qualifications we have seen a 90% pass rate, which is pleasing news this year following a period of such uncertainty over what this summer results would look like,” he said.

“For this year, rather than share the details of individual success stories, I would like to share that we are extremely proud of how all of our Sixth Form students have conducted themselves during this long period of time away from school whilst waiting for these results, their attitudes and support for the situation they have found themselves in has been exemplary.

“We are pleased that the system implemented by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), who regulate qualifications, examinations and assessments in England has been fair and recognised the ability of this group of students at Giles Academy, which can be seen in the grades our students have achieved, with the school identifying approximately 11% of students needing to go through the examination appeals process of exploring the possibility of using their higher mock exam grade rather than the grade issued by the examination boards.”

He said students achieved 37% of all A-Level grades at A*- C, with A-Level pass rate of 93%. For the BTEC qualifications 88% of students passed their qualifications, with 43% achieving Distinction*-Merit grades, which is equivalent to A* - C grades at A Level.

“The performance across the school means that students have achieved their place for university and apprenticeship,” said Dr Chrysostomou.

“We wish all of our Sixth Form group all the very best for the future and we have encouraged them all to keep in touch with us at Giles Academy.”
