The Beacon Medical Centre in Cleethorpes has been transformed into a new ‘hot’ site for the medical assessment of people in the community suffering with Covid-19, in order to relieve pressure on local hospitals.

However, the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided to the centre last week did not include protective glasses.

Bronya Glet, business manager at the centre, said: “As you will be aware, there have been delays in getting supplies of PPE to NHS organisations, and we did not have any protective eyewear, which is needed to see these patients.

“We put out a plea to the community, and King Edward VI Grammar School [in Louth] very kindly offered to donate their science department’s protective eyewear.

“Our clinicians are extremely grateful to the school and the community in general for rallying round so quickly.”

Rhona Adam, Head’s PA at King Edward’s, said: “Myself and Penny Vinter, one of our science technicians, gathered up all that we could, and delivered 180 pairs to be dropped of at Beacon.

“Our Head, James Lascelles, was delighted to be able to make this donation in order to help the community.

“We wish the new Hub all the very best and were very pleased to be able to help get this facility off the ground.
