Louth secondary school closes for two weeks after site staff are required to self-isolate

King Edward VI Grammar School, Louth, will close for two weeks from tomorrow (Thursday) after it was revealed that the school’s site staff and catering team had been required to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace.

In a video uploaded to the school’s website today (Wednesday), head teacher James Lascelles said that the team of around 20 people - which he described as the ‘backbone’ of the school - had been required to self-isolate for 14 days.

This means that it would not be possible for the school to fulfil its health and safety obligations, including the additional Covid safety measures which are in place.

Mr Lascelles said: “Unfortunately, that means we are going to have to close from tomorrow, Thursday 12th November, through to Wednesday 25th November.

“Full details about that are in the letter that is on our website... if we can open earlier than that, then of course we will.”

Mr Lascelles confirmed that learning would continue via the school’s online system in the meantime.

He concluded: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and apologies for the inconvenience I know this is going to cause everybody.”
