Quiz competition spreads festive cheer in rural schools

A Louth-area charity which offers inspirational assemblies to several schools in our area spread Christmas cheer to local pupils with a festive quiz competition.

Shawcoast Amazing Kids Work, which works under the charity ACT (Alford Community Trust), set up the competition to spread the cheer and “allow children to reflect on past and present joys of Christmas and the real meaning of Christmas”.

The festive quiz was spread across two parts, with the first taking place earlier this winter via a PowerPoint presentation, and the second part taking place last week via a YouTube video which was sent privately to each school.

The primary schools which took part were North Somercotes, North Cockerington, Grainthorpe, Hogsthorpe and Stallingborough.

Grainthorpe and Stallingborough were the two winning teams, and the other three schools were runners-up.

Shawcoast Amazing Kids Work would like to thank several local businesses, including John Darke Ltd, Lincolnshire Co-op (Newbridge Hill) and Aldi, which all donated chocolates and sweets for the participating schools to share.

In normal times, Shawcoast Amazing Kids Work visits 10 local schools, delivering inspirational assemblies to pupils on a regular basis.

Anna Davis, speaking on behalf of the organisation, said: “Since the lockdown, the demand for these assemblies has gone up.

“We also plan to hold these competitions on a regular basis to connect more with the schools.

“We do not charge schools for delivering assemblies or any work, we rely solely on donations and have been supported by local businesses.

“However as the work has increased over the pandemic and will carry on increasing, we are looking for more support, of course.”
