Lincolnshire County Council has decided to offload the mill to save money as part of its heritage site policy and wants someone to take it on.

The five-sailed working windmill has been looked after by the village's Heritage Group, which was instrumental in initiating the last major repairs to keep it working in 2014.

Since then the group has increased its activities substantially, bring more tourists to the village who enjoy its cafe and cakes made with flour ground in the mill.

It has also upgraded the outbuildings' interiors to make them more welcoming and provide more information about the village.

However, the group fears that without the public's support the mill will be lost.

A spokesman said: "The county council's own conservation plan states the mill 'can justly be described as having national significance and outstanding importance for the county of Lincolnshire'.

"Without the public's support the mill will most likely close and eventually be lost to the village."

The meeting supported by Burgh le Marsh Town Council, takes place upstairs at the windmill's granary building on Wednesday November 27 at 2pm and 7pm.

It is hoped to garner new ideas to prepare for the future, recruit new personnel, assess the feasibility of accepting responsibility for the running and ownership of the site and discuss the setting up of funding for a preservation project via a steering group.

A representative of Lincolnshire Counting Council will also be at the meeting.
