The Anglian Water ‘Fat of the Land’ Composting Challenge is designed to get people growing things using composted food waste and raise awareness of the recycling food waste and cooking oils/fats which can otherwise block drains and be harmful to the environment.

Oils can be collected and recycled at local recycling centres to be converted into biodiesel, while small amounts of fat and food waste can be composted – specialist composting bins are now available to make it easier.

The challenge, in association with Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS), calls on schools and allotment associations or growers groups to send in photos of their composting bins and growing endeavours.

There will be prizes in various categories – with £300 vouchers for each. Those who register first will be in with a chance of winning a free specialist compost bin worth £180 – and one of 200 packs of giant pumpkin seeds.
