School children show off Indian artwork creations in shop window
Sleaford school pupils inspired when learning about Indian art have been rewarded by having their amazing, colourful fabric creations put on display in a local women’s fashion boutique.
The Year Two students at the William Alvey School have been learning all about India last term and were inspired by the vibrant art.
Year Two teacher Jenny Clifford explained the pupils used an art technique called 'batik' where they applied melted wax with a tjanting tool to fabric, which then resisted the fabric dye to reveal their drawings.
The school held a competition among the Year Two pupils to find the best eight designs.

The designs were then judged by Wendy Hanslip, owner of Bellissimo Boutique, and Claire Summers, a local jewellery designer, who were invited in to hear all about their fabric art and Wendy kindly offered to display eight of the children's designs, which were made into tie dye t-shirts, to display in her window.
Unveiled on Saturday (February 28), they will remain on show until March 8 to celebrate the Indian festival of colour, called ‘Holi’ held on March 4.
Wendy said: “The effort put into designing and creating their images is a fantastic achievement for year two children (aged six to seven).
“The project has captivated and inspired the children and there were many happy tears from those who were included in the eight winning places. The project was heavily supported by class teacher, Jen Clifford, who put a lot of her own time and money into the project to ensure its success.”
Everyone is welcome to go and see their colourful, Indian inspired art examples, t-shirts and jewellery.
