School creates farmers market

Children and staff at Welbourn Church of England Primary School threw open their gates to welcome local businesses and suppliers for an afternoon '˜farmers' market'.

The school yard was transformed with a range of produce and goods on offer.

Stalls offered items such as plants, clothes, books and crafts, with Dennetts Ice Cream, the Body Shop, Horace and Hemingway and Macy’s Brasserie of Navenby also in attendance.

Children in all four classes, from age four to 11, had also been busy planning and preparing for an exciting end to their week on the topic of ‘Enterprise’.

Some children sold hand-made planting kits with decorated pots and linen bags. The pre-school made and sold sun catchers and book marks and older children prepared fruit kebabs.

Older children in Moonstone class offered a range of potato products and games, which included having a potato selfie, and trying your hand at the Potato Shy and Guess the Name of the Potato.

Vicky Cook, headteacher, said: “Children and staff worked incredibly hard to put together a most enjoyable event for families and friends in the local area.”

And they were in luck - with a sunny afternoon to bring out the shoppers and keep them buying.
