Skate park plans on show

Designs for a new skate park for Boston’s Central Park will be shown to the public on Friday as part of an ongoing consultation for the brand new facility.

The Council has received funding from Boston Town Area Committee and the Community Migration Fund to install the skate park on the area that use to be the bowling green and the recently demolished pavilion.

The process over the last 10 months has seen local schoolchildren and the community becoming involved through the whole process from ideas to design.

Now that the contract has been awarded to skate park designers Maverick Industries, a number of drop-in sessions taking place in both Central Park and the Methodist Church, at which a member of staff from Maverick will be present.

People can come along and view the design, and will be able to give give feedback. The sessions are open to skaters and other interested parties of all ages can come along and see examples and give suggestions and opinions.

Maverick has designed the plans from suggestions that were received at the first stage of consultations. Now they are ready to reveal it at these consultation events. A representative will be available to discuss ideas and feedback on the plans.

Work on a Multi-Use Games Area with 5-a-side football and basketball markings and the installation of two table tennis tables is underway at present which already brings new sporting activities into Central Park and the Skate Park will increase those opportunities even further.

“A formal opening of the Skate Park in the school summer holidays will showcase experienced riders as well as fun competitions with prizes for the community to take part in.”

The drop in sessions this Friday take place at the old bowling green area in the park between 3pm and 5pm and later on at the Centenary Methodist Church on Red Lion Street from 5.30pm to 8pm.
