When it comes to film making, a small village school is leading the way - both at home and on the international stage.

Children from Legsby Primary School’s film club travelled to Paris as part of the long running international film education scheme, Le Cinema, cent ans de jeunesse, run by Cinémathèque Française.

They were the only English school to take part in the event, where they showed their short film to students from other schools across the world.

European and South American Schools all had the same brief for their short film - there had to be a shelter, an element of weather and how weather can affect friendships.

Legsby’s film was called The Facade and showed how a shelter can change relationships.

“We showed our film to about 300 people in the French National Cinema and then go on stage to be asked questions by one of the professors,” said Xavier Gasper, who worked as director on the film.

Teacher Ben Murray and chair of governors Ivor Davey, who lead the school’s film club, were delighted with the response the Legsby film got.

“We had lots of positive comments from all over the world,” said Mr Davey.

The project is also helping to build the children’s technical skills.

“They wrote the script, filmed it, helped edit and did the sound - on the whole working independently.

“We had lots of comments from France as to how poetic the text was.”

Plans are already beginning for next year’s Cinematique project, which will have the theme Play.

The young film makers have also recently visited London to take part in a schools film event and they are currently working on the Legsby Archive, interviewing residents and collating memories.

The school has been lucky enough to secure £600 funding from the Mukherjee Trust to buy lighting, a green screen and software to help with the interviews.

And the school’s reputation as film makers continues to grow, with an invitation to attend the Edinburgh Film Festival next year.

“We have put Legsby on the map,” said Mr Davey
