Big bike ride to help children's hospital

Charlotte Walton-Gollop of Sleaford and her fellow pedallers will set off from Skegness seafront on Saturday morning aiming to finish in Carre Street later that day to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Charlotte said: “I decided it was time to give back to Great Ormond Street Hospital for all the care and support they have given my half-cousin Ollie Thacker, and the family.

“Ollie has a brain tumour and has his treatments at GOSH, the staff are just incredible and without their dedication, care, love and support kids like Ollie wouldn’t have the chance in life that they have.”

Ollie was diagnosed when he was almost three years old, he is now 10. Charlotte said: “He is a truly incredible little boy that fights this terrible disease with everything he’s got and still continues to smile.

The bike ride will raise much needed funds and they have already gained £600 towards their initial £1,000 target.

Charlotte, who works as a branch manager for a local nursing agency, said: “This is a massive challenge for me and many members of 
my family and friends as most of them don’t even own a bike!

“So we are putting ourselves through the challenge to raise awareness for brain tumours and GOSH but it’s nothing compared to the pain Ollie has been through since he was diagnosed.”

They have been doing some training and Charlotte has managed a 20 mile bike ride so far.
