Clean energy upgrades set to cut bills for hospitals and military sites in Lincolnshire

Healthcare services, the armed forces sand the community will benefit as clean energy upgrades are set to be installed to cut bills on hospital and military sites in the county.

Five NHS Trusts will receive a share of £6.3 million to adopt clean energy technologies and improve their energy efficiency – helping them to bring down their bills and create savings that can be reinvested into local frontline services.

This includes over £1.8 million delivered in partnership with the government’s Great British Energy (GBE) for new batteries and solar panels, building on the publicly owned company's £255 million investment in solar power for hospitals, schools and military sites last year.

Services to benefit include the Lincoln County Hospital, which will receive £1.2 million from GBE for new solar panels, and Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham (the major trauma centre for Lincolnshire) getting £3.3 million for energy efficiency upgrades across its campus buildings.

Funding will also go to three military sites within the East Midlands, including RAF Waddington, to help manage energy usage in their buildings and make them cheaper to run.

The funding is part of £74 million worth of government support for public buildings across the country to generate their own electricity and save tens of millions on their bills.

Minister for Energy Consumers Martin McCluskey said: “More money will go straight to frontline services in the East Midlands as hospitals and military sites benefit from cheaper bills and cutting-edge green technology.

“This is our clean power mission in action – cutting bills, investing in public services and providing energy security for our country.”

Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said: “With lower bills for hospitals, better value for money, and a cleaner, more efficient NHS, everybody wins.

“Every penny of these savings will be redirected straight back into frontline care and delivering an NHS patients, staff and the whole country can be proud of again.”

Dan McGrail, CEO of Great British Energy said: "This funding will help to create an immediate reduction in energy bills so that millions of pounds can be invested back into vital services for the British public."
