It is the latest in a number of public events that have had to be cancelled or postponed in and around Boston due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a post on Facebook, organisers said they were saddened to be making the announcement about the event was due to take place in Boston Central Park on July 7th.

Last year, thousands turned out to see the 2,000 or so bikes, trikes, scooters and sidecars that roared into the park from all over the county and further afield.

The Facebook post said: “It is with great regret that we have decided to cancel this year’s Bike Night.

“It has become apparent it would be impossible to hold the event and maintain social distancing.

“Even if all restrictions are lifted by July 7, which is doubtfull, the time available for organising is just too short.

“We hope to return bigger and better on the first Thursday in July in 2021.”

The event started 21 years years ago, and is now run by Boston Bike Night Committee, a group of volunteers who are also Boston motorcycle riders.
