The figures from 5pm on Monday showed a total of 1,789 of those in hospital with the virus in the UK have died – a jump from 1,408 the previous day.
After figures jumped from one death to six over the weekend in Lincolnshire hospitals, no further deaths were reported in the county’s hospitals yesterday, so the figure remains at six.
That represents four women and two men, aged from 55 upwards, who have died at United Lincolnshire Health Trust hospitals.
As of 9am today (Tuesday) the Department of Health said a total of 143,186 people have been tested in the UK, with 25,150 testing positive.
The national increase in fatalities represents a 27% day-on-day increase –far the biggest spike so far.
