She says of her dad Richard: “My daddy is a bin man, I am so proud of him! Please help keep him safe by disposing of your waste in the correct way, and Covid-infected waste my mummy says has to be bagged for 72 hours before you put it in your wheelie bin"

Because the virus is live for 72 hours, any potentially infected waste should be double bagged and put aside for at least 72 hours before being put into the wheelie bin.

A spokesperson for the council said it was vital people did this to help keep the infection rate down and to protect the bin operatives, who have continued to work as normal throughout the pandemic.

The guidance is that if you have Covid-19 or are self-isolating, you should double bag all potentially infected items like tissues and cleaning cloths and put them aside for at least 72 hours before putting them in your external bin.
