The Riverside surgery in Marsh Lane, Misterton, has been closed during the coronavirus lockdown due to not being able to comply with social distancing as well as a lack of PPE.

Coun Hazel Brand, Bassetlaw District councillor for Misterton, said: “There's a rumour going round that the surgery in Misterton is closing. There are four reasons why Misterton isn't opening yet.

“The fear of a second wave, which could coincide with winter flu and the winter vomiting bug (Norovirus). People are getting slack at social distancing, so the NHS fully expects a second wave.

“Some staff are still shielding or self-isolating, or looking after others who are shielding or self-isolating and schools not properly back yet, so there are children to look after. This affects the number of staff available.

“Getting supplies of PPE, where supply chains have been under stress, has been difficult and it is easier to equip two surgeries with the necessary PPE than try to do all four and the layout of the waiting area in Misterton, and the route through the building for staff and patients, isn't Covid-secure.

“The waiting area is really tightly packed, theatre-style, whereas the Gringley surgery has a long, single row of seats so it is easier to use every other one to ensure social distancing. So those four reasons are why Misterton won't be opening just yet.

“The Misterton surgery has been 'measured up' for signage, so there are obvious intentions to open but it will depend on the factors being resolved.”

A statement from Bassetlaw CCG said: “There are no plans to close Misterton Surgery and we expect it to re-open as soon as is possible.

“As per national guidance patients should contact the practice as usual. Most issues can be dealt with over the phone, but if it is assessed that a patient needs a face-to-face consultation this will be arranged and will take place in a safe and secure environment. This is the same process for all practices at this time.

“We would re-assure patients that all appropriate precautions are taken where patients attend in person.”
