Sleaford Dementia Support say they are doing what they can to support people with dementia and their families despite restrictions on travel by setting up ‘phone buddies’, where volunteers keep in touch with carers coping with relatives living with dementia.

The charity members are organising hot meal deliveries with help of the Sleaford Coronavirus Group of volunteers, putting bins out and in again for rubbish collection and generally keeping people talking, explained coordinator Becci Mezzo.

She said: “It’s a difficult time for everyone, but we are still helping. In fact we have even had two new members join for support. We are here for you.”

Becci said: “Our world may have stopped, the work of Sleaford Dementia Support has not.

“It was activity group twice a month. It was Carers Plus once a month; it should have been singing group once a month.

“Instead we have our volunteers supporting carers with a weekly telephone chat.”
