Emily’s head shave for charity in memory of gran

With social distancing preventing people from going to hairdressers at the current time, a Sleaford woman is planning to shave of all her hair to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Emily Scriminger-Faulkner explains she took the decision in support of a charity close to her heart.

She said: “Close friends and family will know that I lost my amazing grandma, Daphne Scriminger, in 2013 to this debilitating disease, when she was aged 73. She was ill for a few years and it was incredibly difficult.

“With the recent Covid-19 crisis I’m very much aware that people with MND are at high risk, and may even lose their ventilator for a person with Covid-19, so I want to do what I can to assist.

“I haven’t heard of cases happening yet, but we’re yet to reach peak and given a choice between ventilating an otherwise healthy person with Covid-19 or someone with a terminal illness such as MND, the healthy person will always be chosen as they’ve got a better outcome. People with MND are also incredibly vulnerable to Covid-9 and so more likely to lose their lives from it.”

She said she has often had shorter hair, but admitted to always being “a bit scared” to go much further, so she is taking the plunge to raise funds for this charity.

Emily will be doing the headshave live on Facebook on Friday, May 1. She hopes to raise at least £100.
