‘Overwhelming’ support for cancer sufferer Carol

An ‘overwhelming’ sum has been raised to help a Wyberton mum make the most of her time with her family after being diagnosed with cancer.

In February of last year, mum-of-four Carol Parker, 45, of Solhem Avenue, was found to have an aggressive brain tumour.

It followed a short period of ill health, likened by husband Colin, 46, to ‘having flu’.

He said: “It was severe fatigue, followed by two or three days of severe headaches.”

In January, the family launched an online appeal in Carol’s name.

Colin said: “We thought it was a good idea to try and raise some funds to help Carol this year to achieve some dreams and get away and do something with the family.”

To date, the online appeal has raised about £600. This sum was boosted by a collection at Longhurst and Havelok Homes, where Colin works as an assistant surveyor, and the firm’s contractors Kier and Aaron Services, which raised more than £2,000.

Most recently, Carol’s friends Bobbie Sheridan, from Wyberton, and Jess Zucchetti, from Sleaford, raised several hundred pounds between them by having their hair dyed pink.

In all, more than £3,000 has been raised for Carol, who previously worked at Boston’s Manor Gate Care Home, and the family.

Carol said: “I’m just overwhelmed really.”

The family had hope to visit Disneyland, but for insurance reasons have opted for a week-long stay at Center Parcs as well as a number of other activities, including a spa break.

Colin said: “I just would like to thank everyone for their support, especially Bobbie and Jess. It’s a difficult thing they have done. The level of support has been overwhelming.”
