Plans submitted for more than 200 extra staff parking spaces at Boston's Pilgrim Hospital to ease 'severe pressure'

Plans have been submitted for more than 200 extra staff parking spaces at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital in a bid to ease ‘severe pressure’ at the site.

Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG) has asked Boston Borough Council permission to change the use of part of the Sibsey Road grounds.

It wants to convert an unused area near the exit of the site, opposite East Skirbeck House, from a former plant nursery to a staff car park. This would act as an extension to the Beach car park and comprise 216 extra spaces.

At the time of the application being made shortly before Christmas, approval had already been given for the demolition of buildings on the plot in question.

In a supporting statement made on behalf of LCHG, agents Oglesby & Limb Ltd said: “The site is now disused and until recently was starting to become a target for anti-social behaviour. Demolition of the existing dwelling and nursery building is however now well progressed and the site boundaries have been secured.

“There is now real pressure on the Pilgrim Hospital site for additional parking because the existing capacity has been exceeded. This addition is needed quickly to relieve pressure on the hospital and particularly on its delivery of services.”

The ‘insufficient’ staff parking for the hospitals ‘compromises both efficiency and safety’, the agents say.

They also refer to issues of double and treble parking on site and a need to deliver additional spaces before the end of March 2026.

In their conclusion, they said: “There is a clear identified need for additional car parking to serve the Pilgrim Hospital.

“The proposal site is perfectly positioned in that it forms an extension to the existing staff car park. The proposal will create additional spaces slightly in excess of 200, which should address the identified need.

“Overall, therefore it is considered that the additional parking will meet the identified need and will alleviate the severe pressure that is currently being experienced.”
